FLAEM AirFeel is a portable respiratory physiotherapy device for airway clearance, providing both Positive Expiratory Pressure (PEP) and Oscillating Positive Expiratory Pressure (OPEP) therapy in a single device. OPEP is also sometimes referred to as Vibratory Positive Expiratory Pressure (VPEP).
Designed for clinical and home use, AirFeel combines five adjustable expiratory resistance settings with a simple mechanical oscillation system. The device can be completely disassembled for cleaning, its components are autoclavable, and FLAEM states an expected average device life of 5 years.
PEP and OPEP Therapy in One Device
OPEP mode
When the control is rotated to the open position, the internal sphere is free to move and AirFeel provides positive expiratory pressure together with oscillation.
The oscillatory airflow helps to mobilise respiratory secretions as part of an airway clearance therapy programme.
PEP mode
When the control is rotated to the closed position, the internal sphere is blocked. AirFeel then provides positive expiratory pressure without oscillation.
The ability to select either PEP or OPEP gives healthcare professionals greater flexibility when incorporating AirFeel into an individual respiratory physiotherapy programme.
Adjustable Expiratory Resistance
The standard AirFeel provides five expiratory resistance settings, selected using the blue adjustment ring. Resistance can therefore be adapted according to the patient’s requirements and the treatment programme established by their healthcare professional.
For applications requiring finer adjustment, the optional ACO813P AirFeel Ring Kit includes an additional grey adjustment ring designed to provide smaller incremental changes in expiratory resistance. This gives healthcare professionals greater flexibility when more precise adjustment or progression of expiratory resistance is required.

Therapy Monitoring for Healthcare Professionals
The optional ACO755P AirFeel Pro Kit includes a manometer which allows healthcare professionals to monitor treatment pressure and assist in establishing appropriate treatment settings.
This can support a clinician-led pathway in which treatment settings are established by appropriately trained medical personnel before the patient continues therapy independently.
Designed for Long-Term Use
FLAEM states an expected average device life of 5 years for AirFeel.
For healthcare organisations supporting patients requiring longer-term airway clearance therapy, this expected working life may help reduce the frequency of whole-device replacement. This may provide benefits in terms of both procurement costs and the quantity of equipment requiring replacement and disposal.
Easy to Clean and Reprocess
AirFeel can be completely disassembled to facilitate thorough cleaning. Its components are also autoclavable, supporting effective reprocessing in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
Portable and Lightweight
AirFeel weighs approximately 110 g and features an ergonomic removable handle.
The individually packed AirFeel includes a nose clip and travel bag, making the device convenient for patients continuing respiratory physiotherapy away from the clinical environment.
Combined Nebuliser and Respiratory Therapy
AirFeel can be used with specified compatible FLAEM nebuliser systems, allowing inhalation therapy and PEP/OPEP respiratory therapy to be performed during the same treatment session where prescribed by medical personnel.
The two devices address different phases of breathing. AirFeel IMT provides adjustable resistance during inspiration for inspiratory muscle training, while AirFeel PEP/OPEP provides positive expiratory pressure with or without oscillation during expiration. This allows the devices to be used as part of a combined respiratory physiotherapy programme where clinically appropriate.
AirFeel for NHS and Healthcare Organisations
AirFeel is available from Henleys Medical Supplies individually and in a dedicated 20-unit bulk pack for hospitals, NHS Trusts and other healthcare organisations.
The bulk configuration supplies 20 AirFeel devices without individual carry bags, providing a practical and economical format for healthcare organisations purchasing devices in quantity.
Clinical Evidence for OPEP Therapy
AirFeel is a newer respiratory physiotherapy device, while PEP and OPEP are established airway clearance techniques with a substantial history of clinical use.
Published clinical evidence relating to OPEP therapy includes studies involving several established OPEP devices and different mechanical systems. AirFeel uses an established mechanical principle to generate oscillating positive expiratory pressure while also providing a separate non-oscillating PEP mode.
Clinical literature relating to OPEP therapy is available from Henleys Medical Supplies for healthcare professionals requiring further supporting information.
